SACRAMENTO – The University of San Francisco Diamond Dons (14-14) beat the Sacramento State Hornets (15-14) Wednesday, 8-4, at John Smith Field. The win moves the Dons to .500 for the first time this season.

USF used nine pitchers, who scattered 10 hits and didn't allow a walk on the afternoon. Christian Cecilio (3-0) earned the win, pitching two scoreless innings.

The Dons scored a pair of runs in the first inning after Justin Maffei and Jason Mahood reached base to start the game. Maffei and Bradley Zimmer came around to score to give the Dons a lead they would never relinquish.

Four Dons recorded multiple hit games – Maffei, Mahood, Zachary Turner and Brendan Hendriks – in the 10-hit effort. Bob Cruikshank and Steven Camberos each drove in a pair of runs, Camberos doing so without a hit, on two ground balls.

“We played well in a lot of areas today,” said USF Head Coach Nino Giarratano. “We pitched great, hit well with runners in scoring position, and executed to get runners in scoring position. The defense and base running were solid, and when you put those things together you have a good chance to win. We got to .500 today, but we need to be well over .500 to accomplish our goals this season.”
