San Francisco Drops Extra-Inning Decision at California

BERKELEY, Calif. – Despite erasing a late deficit, the University of San Francisco baseball team (19-19) dropped a 4-3 extra-inning decision at California (21-18) Wednesday afternoon at Stu Gordon Stadium.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, when Myles Kallinger led off with a solo home run over the left-field wall.
- California answered in the bottom half of the second inning, tying the game at one, on an RBI groundout from Kalen Applefield. Applefield later scored on a throwing error from pitcher Magnus Nelson to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 edge.
- Trevor Busby leveled the game in the sixth inning, recording a sacrifice fly to plate TJ Rogers to tie the game at two.
- After California jumped ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Kallinger recorded a game-tying RBI groundout in the ninth to tie the game and force extra innings.
- The Golden Bears walked off in the bottom of the 10th, earning a bases-loaded walk to secure the 4-3 victory.
- Kallinger paced the green and gold at the plate, going one-for-five, with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored.
- Rogers and Isaiah Landry were active on the basepath, swiping one base apiece during the contest. The duo remained perfect in stolen-base attempts on the season, combining for 11 stolen bases.
- Eight players recorded a hit for the Dons, while every batter reached base. Tino Vasell led the team with two base knocks, and Rogers and Brendan Burke totaled a team-best two walks.
- Alan Gonzalez earned his third start of the season on the mound and pitched a scoreless first inning, recording two strikeouts.
