STOCKTON, Calif. -- USF rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie its match with Pacific midway through the second half but came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 decision after the Tigers tallied the game winning goal at the 75 minute mark Saturday night in Stockton.
The loss drops USF's record to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the West Coast Conference while the Tigers improve to 11-3-1 and 3-1-1 in conference action with its title hopes still very much alive. It is also Pacific's first-ever win over USF in 23 tries.
USF spotted Pacific a 2-0 lead midway through the first half as Camden Riley and Julio Cervantes found the back of the net just five minutes apart. Riley's fourth goal of the season gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the 22 minute mark. Five minutes later, Cervantes gave the Tigers a 2-0 advantage with his eighth goal of the season off an assist from Anthony Oredain.
USF regained some momentum before halftime when Leon Schwarzer cut the Tiger lead in half with his fourth goal of the season just before time expired in the first period.
The Dons leveled the match at 2-2 at the 66 minute mark of the second half when Santiago Digiuseppe headed a corner kick from Aaron Lombari past Tiger keeper Curtis Goldsmith. However, nine minutes later, Tyson Fox provided the game-winning goal off an assist from Andres Ochoa at the 75:42 mark.
The Dons didn't go down quietly as David Garrett and Digiuseppe narrowly missed game-tying headers with less than 10 minutes remaining.
USF keeper Andre Glasnovic was credited with eight saves on the evening.
The Dons will return home next weekend to play host to San Diego on Sunday beginning at 4:00 p.m. USF will then wrap up its season on Nov. 12 at Loyola Marymount.
