San Francisco Sweeps WCC Men's Soccer Players of the Week Awards

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Fresh off a road win at No. 15 Kansas City, San Francisco (USF) swept this week's West Coast Conference (WCC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week awards. Nico Ruiz was named WCC Offensive Player of the Week while William Krause was named WCC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Ruiz has been quite a force for San Francisco coming off the bench so far this season, as the sophomore enjoyed another notable week. After logging one shot on the road at Creighton on Thursday, Aug. 27, the Cal transfer broke out in a big way in USF's 3-2 win over No. 15 Kansas City, including collecting the first two goals (and first career brace) of his collegiate career.
Getting the scoring going early, Ruiz punched home a beautiful cross from Brayden Beason just 3:07 into regulation to give the green and gold an early 1-0 lead. San Francisco and Kansas City both found the back of the net in the minutes to follow, but Ruiz didn't stop there, netting his second goal of the night at 73:35 to make it 3-1 in favor of the Dons. Despite one goal from the Roos at 80:33, the Dons defense would hold just enough as San Francisco picked up its first signature win of 2026 with a 3-2 road victory at No. 15 Kansas City on Sunday night. For the week, Ruiz finished with two goals, five shots (two on goal, .400 shot on goal percentage), and four points. He also scored the game-winning goal at No. 15 Kansas City.
Krause stepped up in a big way for San Francisco on Sunday night, helping guide USF to its first signature win of 2026 with a 3-2 road win at No. 15 Kansas City. Making his first start in the cage this season and his first appearance since Oct. 15, 2025 at Pacific, Krause collected six saves for the Dons out of 19 total Roos shots. These six saves marked a new career-high for the senior, and his most since finishing with three saves at No. 11 Indiana on Aug. 24, 2025.
These are USF's first conference weekly awards this season.
