Dons Take Down No. 15 Roos in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of San Francisco (1-2-1) picked up its first signature win of the season at Durwood Soccer Stadium as the first two career goals from Nico Ruiz powered the Dons to a 3-2 win at No. 15 Kansas City (2-1) on Sunday night.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco got on the board early when Brayden Beason crossed the ball to a cutting Nico Ruiz, who punched home his first collegiate goal just 3:07 into regulation to give the Dons a 1-0 lead.
- Following a foul in the box by the Roos at 10:28, Isaiah Easley converted a penalty kick to give the green and gold a 2-0 advantage.
- Similar to USF, Kansas City answered with a penalty kick goal of their own from Raphael Kistmann at 19:56 to notch their first point of the evening,
- Heading into halftime, Kansas City (9) and USF (8) remained almost even in total shots, with the Dons maintaining a one-goal lead, 2-1.
- Ruiz continued to have his way in the second half as the California transfer made it a 3-1 lead with his second goal of the night at 73:35, this time using his right foot to blast it past the opposing goalkeeper. Prior to the strike, Beason played the ball off his chest before delivering another sharp pass to Ruiz, collecting his second assist.
- Kansas City closed the gap to 3-2 on a goal from Ian Witis-Hughes at 80:33, assisted by Jonas Rossdorfer and Miguel Fernandez.
- Holding steady for the final 9:27, San Francisco fended off a few final attacks from the Roos in the closing minutes as the Dons battled to secure the 3-2 road victory.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- After transferring from across the Bay this offseason, Ruiz's first career goals came in just his sixth career match, as he appeared in only two matches for California in 2025. Additionally, his four shots against the Roos also marked a career-high and team-high, as he tallied just one total shot before joining the Dons. He now has 9 shots so far this season.
- Overall, four different Dons recorded at least two shots: Ruiz (4), Beason (3), Easley (2), and Ben Norris (2).
- Beason continues to prove to be dangerous with the ball at any moment as the junior recorded two assists in a single match for the first time in his career.
- Making his first start in the cage this season, and his first appearance since Oct. 15, 2025 at Pacific, William Krause collected six saves for the Dons out of 19 total Roos shots. These six saves marked a new career-high for the senior, and his most since finishing with three saves at No. 11 Indiana on Aug. 24, 2025.
