Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WSOC | Dons Are Golden Against Gaels

THE RUNDOWN
MORAGA, Calif. –
In the 101st minute the University of San Francisco women's soccer team struck gold on the game-winning by goal by senior Camille Wilson.  The Dons came away with the 3-2 double-overtime win over Bay Area rival Saint Mary's on Sunday evening at Saint Mary's Stadium.

USF (6-9-2, 2-4-0 WCC) lit up the scoreboard first, on the first career goal by Desiree Major.  Major took the feed from Sonja Giraud and Micaela Mercado in the 29th minute.  From there the Gaels took control.

SMC (6-10-0, 2-4-0 WCC) scored the equalizer on a penalty kick a minute later by Jasmine Edwards.  With the game tied 1-1, SMC broke the tie in the 64th minute on a goal by Jaylen Crim.  The Gaels looked like they were going to come away with the 2-1 win, but a late foul in the box gave Samantha Jehnings a penalty kick that she sent to the back of the net to tie the game up in the 81st minute. It was the sixth goal of the season for Jehnings.

Regulation ended with the game tied 2-2, and for the seventh time USF went into extra time. The two sides traded a pair of shot in the first overtime and headed into double overtime when Major sent a cross down the left side where Wilson finished with the game winner inside the box, it was the first goal of the season for Wilson.

COACHES QUOTE
"What a great effort by our kids," said head coach Jim Millinder.  "Offensively we are firing on all cylinders right now.  Even going back to the Pacific game, we felt like we could score nine goals that game and felt like we could score nine goals tonight.  We had so many good chances.  Every game in the WCC is so difficult so to score three goals in back-to-back contests is a testament to the effort our girls put out there this weekend. Desiree Major was big time today.  She's been playing better and better the last couple of weeks, so we gave her more time today, and she made the difference today with a goal and an assist. Proud of her effort.  Proud of our defensive effort today, Allison Arriola was there for us today after missing some time, she really played well. It was a tremendous win a tremendous steam effort."
