THE RUNDOWN
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the fifth time this season, the University of San Francisco women's soccer team needed extra time to decide the match, tonight however, the Dons came out on top with a 1-0 win over host UC Riverside.
With both defense pitching a shutout, junior midfielder Samantha Jehnings took a deep pass from sophomore forward Izzie Lueken in the box to beat UC Riverside's keeper in the 102 minute. For Jehnings it was her third goal of the season.
Defensively, the Dons were spectacular, holding the Highlanders to nine shots on the evening, none coming in overtime. Sophomore keeper Olivia Camera earned the clean sheet, tallying five saves.
STATS OF THE GAME
"It was a very tough match tonight," said head coach Jim Millinder. "It is very difficult to go on the road and get results. Our team just stayed with it tonight! I thought our effort was much better in the second half and in the overtimes.
WHATS NEXT
USF will remain in Orange County as they take on UC Irvine on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in their final non-conference match of the season. Live stats will be available and can be accessed on the women's soccer schedule page.
