MBB | Dons Fall to host Lions in Heartbreaker

LOS ANGELES – The University of San Francisco men's basketball team trailed for the entirety of the contest when Souley Boum hit a go-ahead bucket with three seconds reaming. The Dons elation was short lived as LMU's Jeffery McClendon was fouled on a prayer from 45 feet away from the basket, he hit all three free throws to give Loyola Marymount a 67-65 win on Thursday evening in Gersten Pavilion.
USF (10-8, 2-3 WCC) had a solid evening offensively. USF shot 50.0 percent from the field going 26-for-52 from the floor and was 8-for-20 from 3-point range. No three was bigger than the triple hit by Jordan Ratinho with 11 seconds left in regulation to bring the Dons within one, 64-63.
The Dons fouled the Lions immediately on the inbound, sending LMU to the line shooting a 1-on-1. LMU's James Batemon missed the front end, where Nate Renfro grabbed the board and passed it to Frankie Ferrari who found Boum on the far sideline. He scored on an up and under layup for his 12th point of the evening.
Boum and Ferrari scored 12 points each to lead the Dons. Ferrari also dished out a career-high eight assists. Renfro tallied eight points and six rebounds. Ratinho scored 11 points with five rebounds.
Loyola Marymount (6-10, 1-4 WCC) finished the night with three players in double figures and was led by Eli Scott's game-high 18 points. Steven Haney finished with 17 followed by Mattias Markusson who had 12 points.

The Dons will return to the hardwood on Saturday night when No. 15 Gonzaga comes to town. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start time. Tickets can be purchased at Dons Ticket Central.

- USF committed 17 turnovers on the evening, 10 in the second half. LMU converted those 17 turnovers into 16 points.
- The Dons and Lions finished with 32 rebounds apiece, LMU finished with 14 offensive rebounds that gave way to nine second chance points. USF's 12 offensive rebounds led to seven second chance points.
- The Dons bench was active as usual, scoring 30 points. Leading the charge off the bench was Ratinho who had 11.
