WVB | Dons secure win over Army, 3-2

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The University of San Francisco women's volleyball team closed out the weekend on Saturday, Aug. 25 in West Point, N.Y. at the Army Invitational. The Dons were victorious over Army 3-2.
MATCH 1
In the first set of the match, the Dons had to play catch-up to Army. Strong kills from Kate Ashman and Emily Zinger got the Dons started, but they couldn't get the upper hand and fell 21-25.
The second set of the match was a comeback for USF and won the set 25-20. Erin Anthony got the first three points and for the rest of the set, the Dons held the lead. A final kill by Lena Bondar brought the set to an end and the Dons tied Army 1-1.
USF however started to trail Army at the end of set three 1-2. An attack error made by Army resulted in a point for the Dons, but they fell behind early on after Army recorded multiple kills. The Dons tied the set at 13-13 after a kill by Zinger, but the set ended in a 18-25 loss.
The score was tied 2-2 after the fourth set. USF took the lead off of an attack error, but the two teams went back and fourth leading the set. A kill by Bondar and a bad set by Army gave the Dons the set win and brought the game into set five.
In the final set of the match, USF got an early lead off of a kill by Zinger and kept it for the rest of the set. The match was called at 15-10 in favor of the Dons and they took the win over Army 3-2.

The Dons will stay on the road and head to Fresno, Calif. for the Fresno State Invitational, starting on Friday, Aug. 31.
