- Falling behind in the first inning, San Francisco fell into a 4-0 hole following Sacramento State's early offensive onslaught.
- Despite getting a run back as Kenny DeCelle scored on a Jordan Lewis RBI double in the top half of the first, the Hornets added four more tallies in the second inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
- Battling back in the bottom of the fourth inning, Matty Fung kickstarted the rally with a one-out double before DeCelle followed with a single to plate Fung, trimming the deficit to 8-2. Two more runs came across in the inning as Patrick Keighran earned a bases-loaded walk, and Tyler Harries posted an RBI groundout to get within four, 8-4, through four innings.

- The Dons answered in the following half-inning, scoring five runs on four hits to get within 14-10. Nick Walsh, DeCelle, Lewis, and TJ Rogers recorded RBI throughout the frame as Rogers concluded the scoring with a two-out, two-RBI single to center field.
