SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Competing in its fourth-straight game, the University of San Francisco baseball team (12-13) returned to the Hilltop and dropped a 10-6 non-conference decision to California (14-10) Monday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After being shut out in the first two frames, California gained an early advantage, scoring two runs in the top of the third to grab a 2-0 lead. With two runners in scoring position and two outs recorded, Ryan Tayman dunked a bloop double down the right-field line, plating Jarren Advincula and Dominic Smaldino.
- The Golden Bears added to their run total in the following frame, expanding the margin to 6-0. Advincula highlighted the inning with a two-run home while Cade Campbell and Carl Schmidt added RBI singles.
- San Francisco broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning, posting four runs to trim the deficit to two, 6-4. Eddison Esquivel and Tyvon Moore combined for two two-run home runs to get the Dons on the board. Patrick Keighran and Nick Walsh also added base hits throughout the frame, with Keighran notching a single and a stolen base while Walsh recorded his first extra-base knock.
- Keighran leveled the score in the following frame, recording the green and gold's third home run of the game, a two-out, two-run blast over the left-center-field wall to tie the game at six. Brendan Burke singled to kick off the inning and moved into scoring position following a Miles Kallinger sacrifice bunt to the pitcher.
- With the game tied in the top of the ninth inning, California posted four runs to regain the lead, 10-6. The Golden Bears then secured the victory in the bottom half of the ninth as the relief pitcher Cole Tremain struck out the side for the final three outs.
