Judkins Nets First Goal, Dons Shutout Aggies in Season Opener

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) men's soccer team (1-0) looked strong on both sides of the ball on Thursday night as USF picked up its first win and shutout of the new season with a 1-0 victory over UC Davis (0-1) at Negoesco Stadium.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

Defense was the theme early as the Dons did not record their first shot of the evening until 18:22 when David Raphael fired a strike on target, but was ultimately denied by opposing goalkeeper Noah Schwengeler.
Both sides continued to attack the other, but neither could find the back of the net through the opening 45 minutes of play.
San Francisco would find momentum in the 63^rd minute as Chris Maldonado found the streaking Ben Norris down the field before Norris quickly dished it to Jaggar Judkins near the box. Making a quick move to avoid an Aggie defender, Judkins then punched home the lone goal of the match at 62:13 to put the Dons on top, 1-0.
This goal would prove to be all that the green and gold would need as USF held off UC Davis down the stretch to secure the 1-0 victory. With the win, San Francisco defeated UC Davis for the first time since a 2-1 victory on Sept. 4, 2016.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

Judkins and Norris both impressed in their first collegiate matches as Judkins notched his first career goal while Norris tallied his first career assist. While Judkins was on the roster last season, the sophomore missed the year with a season-ending injury that occurred during USF's exhibition at Stanford in Aug. 2024.
Making his first start in goal for San Francisco, Lucas Jones picked up his first clean sheet as a Don on Thursday night, including making two saves along the way.
Norris, Matisse Chretien, Samuel Atiye, and Jhared Willcot also made their debuts in the green and gold against UC Davis.
