Volleyball Concludes Wildcat Invitational, Falls to San Jose State

OGDEN, Utah – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (1-2) dropped its final match of the Wildcat Invitational, falling to San Jose State (1-2) 3-0 Sunday morning at Swenson Gym.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco fell into a hole at the start of the opening set, dropping six of the first seven points as San Jose State led 6-1. Despite the Dons trimming the deficit to two, 8-6, the Spartans extended their advantage and earned a dominating 25-16 victory.
- Trailing 7-4 at the start of the second set, the green and gold dropped 10 straight points as San Jose State built a 17-4 lead. The Dons used a late 8-0 scoring run, led by kills from Anica Bobic, Maeve Bailey, and Katariina Korhonen, to get within five, 24-19, before the Spartans recorded the final point to take the set, 25-19.
- In a back-and-forth third frame, San Jose State solidified the match victory, holding on for a 25-20 win.
- Reaching double-digit kills for the third straight match, Petra Fritz totaled a team-high 10 while adding four digs and one block assist.
- Emma Neukirchen, Bailey, and Bobic swung efficiently throughout the contest, finishing with hitting percentages of .333, .308, and .300, respectively.
- Jordan Smart led the team in assists with 12 and added five digs, the third most on the team.
- Laura Amaro commanded the backline, recording a season-high nine digs.

San Francisco returns to the Hilltop when it hosts CSU Bakersfield at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, in the 2026 home opener at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
