Dons Fire on All Cylinders in Sweep of California Baptist

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Firing on all cylinders offensively, the University of San Francisco volleyball team recorded a .443 hitting percentage as the Dons swept California Baptist, 25-13, 25-11, 25-16, Saturday at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. With the non-conference victory, San Francisco improved to 8-5 overall.Â
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco established contorl early in the opening set, using back-to-back kills from Emma Neukirchen to build a 5-1 advantage and force an early California Baptist timeout.
- Neukirchen continued to put pressure on the Lancers from the service line, recording consecutive aces as the Dons extended their advantage to 8-2.
- Later in the opening frame, San Francisco pulled away behind a strong serving run from Katariina Korhonen, while kills from Petra Fritz, Hokulani Perez and Neukirchen helped the Dons build a 23-11 advantage.
- Maeve Bailey finished off the opening frame with a kill as San Francisco secured the first set, 25-13.
- Following a tighter start to the second set, the Dons created separation behind an extended serving run from Neukirchen.
- Leading 11-9, San Francisco scored 13 consecutive points to build a commanding 24-9 advantage. Neukirchen recorded four service aces during the stretch as the Dons took control of the frame.
- San Francisco totaled 14 kills while hitting .476 in the second set, cruising to a 25-11 victory to take a two-set advantage.
- The Dons carried their momentum into the third, scoring first and never trailing throughout the frame.
- With San Francisco ahead 15-12, kills from Bailey, Fritz and Andjela Sojic helped the Dons extend their advantage to 20-12.
- Fritz delivered back-to-back service aces late in the frame as San Francisco pushed its lead to 23-13.
- Bailey brought the Dons to match point before Sojic delivered the final kill to secure the 25-16 set victory and complete the sweep.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- San Francisco recorded a .443 hitting percentage for the match, one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season.
- Petra Fritz led the Dons with a match-high 10 kills while hitting .692.
- Emma Neukirchen contributed seven kills and a match-high seven service aces.
- Katariina Korhonen led all players with nine digs.
- Hokulani Perez anchored the Dons at the net with five blocks.
- Jordan Smart distributed a match-high 20 assists.
- San Francisco totaled three service aces in the opening frame before recording five apiece in the second and third sets.
- The Dons finished the third set with 15 kills while leading from start to finish.
