
Dons Bounce Back, Sweep Lopes in Straight Sets

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The University of San Francisco (USF) volleyball team (3-3) bounced back in its second match of the GCU Invitational as the Dons cruised to a three-set sweep, 3-0, over host Grand Canyon (2-3) on Saturday night at Global Credit Union Pavilion.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Despite GCU recording the first three points of the evening, San Francisco responded and took its first lead of the match at 10-9. The Dons continued to battle and would end on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the opening set, 25-20. USF registered a .429 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set victory.
- Moving into set two, San Francisco never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 20-19 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Dons took over in the second half of the set. The USF offense also got a boost from three aces. San Francisco's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Grand Canyon attacks as the Dons took the second set, 25-22.
- Thanks to a solid performance on the attacking side, San Francisco closed the match by putting together a .333 attack percentage with 12 kills in the third set. The Dons opened up an 18-10 lead and coasted to victory from there, securing the final set 25-18 to defeat the Lopes in straight sets, 3-0.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Petra Fritz had a match-high 10 kills for San Francisco, marking the fifth time in six matches so far this season she has recorded double-digit kills. She also added a match-high and season-high three aces in the win.
- San Francisco got a career-high 11 digs from Katariina Korhonen, who tied for the team lead in digs alongside Jordan Smart.
- USF's attackers were helped by a team-high 15 assists from Adelynn Legates, her third performance this season with ten or more assists.
- Maeve Bailey finished with a match-high four blocks, her third outing this season with at least four blocks.
