2017 (SOPHOMORE): Missed time early in the year but emerged as the Dons’ most consistent starter… posted a 4-2 record with a 2.45 ERA, which ranked third in the WCC… led the pitching staff with 65 strikeouts over 69 2/3 innings, while walking just 10 batters all year, the fewest in the WCC… earned All-WCC honorable mention honors… also earned WCC All-Academic honorable mention recognition… named WCC Pitcher of the Week on May 7… limited hitters to a .239 batting average against, which ranked among the top-10 in the conference… tossed his first complete game at Santa Clara on Apr. 22, allowing just two runs on 11 hits while striking out a career-high 10 without walking anyone… registered quality starts in six of his nine starts… posted back-to-back outings where he threw eight scoreless innings against Pepperdine (May 5) and San Jose State (May 12)… scattered four hits over eight scoreless innings while striking out eight in a no-decision against Hawaii on Feb. 24… earned wins in three straight decisions against Portland (Apr. 14), Santa Clara and Pepperdine… enjoyed two notable scoreless streaks, going 15 1/3 innings without allowing a run between Apr. 3 and Apr. 18, and 16 innings between May 5 and May 12… won the Jesse Foppert Fireman of the Year Award as the team’s top pitcher.
2016 SUMMER: Played with the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League... went 3-3 with a 4.67 ERA in 28.1 innings... started five games while making 10 appearances overall... registered 16 strikeouts.
2016 (FRESHMAN): Emerged as the Dons' Saturday starter for most of the season... made 12 starts and 16 appearances overall... posted a 4-6 record with a 5.94 ERA... registered 44 strikeouts in 72.2 innings pitched... recorded five quality starts on the year... earned his first collegiate victory with a seven-inning start vs. UMass Lowell (Mar. 16) where he allowed one run on five hits while walking one and striking out six... took a no-hitter into the 6th inning en route to a season-best 7.2 innings and season-high seven strikeouts in a win at Saint Mary's (Apr. 30)... was the Opening Day starter at UC Santa Barbara (Feb. 19) where he took the loss, throwing five innings and allowing eight runs on nine hits while walking four... his longest relief outing was 4.1 innings vs. Hawai’i (Feb. 26), allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts... went at least 6.0 innings in six of his last eight starts to finish the year.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach Matt Goldfield at Newbury Park High School… named second team All-Marmonte as a senior... junior year earned the Pitcher of the Year Award and was a first team all-league pick and a second team All-Ventura County selection... helped lead his team to a CIF Division I championship as a freshman... named team’s rookie of the year his freshman year.
PERSONAL: Born Apr. 15, 1997 in West Hills, Calif…. parents are James and Kelly Ponticelli... majoring in business administration... aspires to a professional baseball career or to own a sports agency after graduating from USF... maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout high school... enjoys fishing, hiking, and going to the beach.
