STANFORD, Calif. – The San Francisco Diamond Dons continued their run to the postseason, defeating #19 Stanford Tuesday, 4-3, at Sunken Diamond for their 30th win of the season. The Dons last beat the Cardinal on March 29, 2010 when they left with a 5-1 win at Sunken Diamond.

USF struck first, on a pair of doubles from Zachary Turner and Derek Atkinson. Turner is 5-for-13 in May after winning the West Coast Conference player of the month award in April.

Stanford answered back in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs off Dons starter Andrew Pulido.

The Dons went ahead for good in the fourth, scoring three times on RBI singles from Josh Miller and Ryan Matranga. Matranga's two-out, two-RBI hit provided the winning margin for the Dons.

The Dons bullpen was solid, allowing just one run in 6.2 innings in relief of Pulido. K.J. Edson, Ben Graff, Logan West, Bob Mott, Abe Bobb and Adam Cimber allowed just five hits and walked none.

Edson (1-1) earned the win for USF. Cimber picked up his eighth save of the season.

“I'm excited about the way the kids played,” said USF head coach Nino Giarratano. “There are some things we could have done better, but we got some big base hits and our pitching was phenomenal. Every guy came in throwing strikes and did his job. Offensively we could have been a little bit sharper, but we'll clean that up. I'm glad to come down and play the #19 team in the country and pick up a win at their place. We control our own destiny from here, and we're in a good position to play in the conference tournament and an NCAA regional.”

The Dons wrap up their conference schedule this weekend at BYU, playing Thursday, Friday and Saturday. USF is currently second in the conference behind Gonzaga.

Inside the Numbers
