SAN FRANCISCO — After an active first half, the University of San Francisco's men's soccer team earned their second consecutive West Coast Conference victory, 2-0, over the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at Negoesco Stadium.
It was a slow start for the Dons and the Bulldogs when not a single shot was recorded up until the 17th minute mark, when Ashish Chattha attempted the first shot on goal. At the 32nd mark, it was the return of Sean Bowman who took the ball up from midfield on his own and launched it from 23-yards out to score right past the Bulldogs goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.Just a few minutes later, the Dons made their offensive presence felt from inside the box when Gonzaga was issued a yellow card at the 37th minute mark, resulting in a penalty kick. Sandro Bradara was called to the task and executed the shot to extend the Dons lead, 2-0 in the first half.
After a combined 19 fouls and four yellow cards up until the 81st minute mark, Gonzaga's Frankie Ljucovic was called up to a penalty kick for an opportunity to trail the Dons, but Ljucovic missed the shot as the ball hit the left post.
Gonzaga recorded 15 shots on goal as the Dons had 10. USF's Ruben Stuiver caught six crucial saves as he led Gonzaga's keeper Ben Willis who had two. Both teams combined 34 fouls and seven yellow cards.
