Dons Fall to Wildcats in Season Opener

OGDEN, Utah – The University of San Francisco volleyball team (0-1) dropped a 3-1 nonconference decision to Weber State (1-0) in opening match of the Wildcat Invitational Friday afternoon at Swenson Gym.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After Weber State grabbed the early lead with a 25-18 first-set victory, San Francisco responded in the following frame, winning 25-22 to level the match at a set apiece.
- With the second set tied at 14, the green and gold recorded a 6-0 scoring run to take a commanding 20-14 lead. Anica Bobic produced two kills to pace the Dons during the run.
- Fending off a Wildcat rally, the Dons posted the final two points of the frame, a kill from Petra Fritz and a block from Hokulani Perez and Emma Neukirchen to take the frame, 25-22.
- Weber State responded in the third, regaining the lead with a dominating 25-13 victory and finished off the match with a 25-16 decision in the fourth and final set to earn the win.
- Fritz paced San Francisco offensively, totaling a match-high 15 kills on 44 attempts. She also added a service ace and seven digs throughout the contest.
- Bobic led the green and gold with a stellar .400 hitting percentage, with six kills on 10 attempts while committing only two attack errors. Defensively, she tied Perez for the team-lead with one solo block.
- In their first collegiate matches, Katariina Korhonen and Neukirchen recorded eight kills apiece while Korhonen recorded a team-high nine digs.
- At the front line, Maeve Bailey recorded four block assists to lead the team.

San Francisco returns to action at 10:30 a.m. PT/11:30 p.m. MT on Saturday, Aug. 29, when it takes on Belmont in the second match of the Wildcat Invitational, at Swenson Gym.
