Short Shines but USF Falls to Boise State

SAN FRANCISCO –– In his first race as a USF Don, Alex Short took home first place in the 8000M race against Boise State, crossing the finish line with a time of 24:55.1. Despite the stellar performance, USF was unable to come away with team victories over the Boise State Broncos and fell to the Broncos on the men's and women's sides.
Short, a Bicknacre, England native, represented the only Don in the men's top five as Boise State's Michael Vennard (25:21.3), Louis McAfee (25:21.4), Rhys Park (25:33.0) and Dan Oekerman (25:37.8) all finished behind him. Boise State totalled 23 team points on the men's side, compared to 33 for USF.
Ed Shepherd (25:39.2), Mohamed Aziz (25:51.8) and Quentin Purtzer (25:57.2) all raced well, helping the Dons to four finishers in the top 10.
In the women's 6000M race, Boise State's Allie Ostrander (20:44.4), Minttu Hukka (20:58.3) and Brenna Peloquin (21:00.4) finished first, second and third to pace the Broncos. Making their debuts for USF, Charlotte Taylor (21:11.4) and Tatjana Schulte (21:22.0) both turned in strong performances to finish fourth and fifth overall. Weronika Pyzik (21:24.2) also ran well, marking her second consecutive top 10 finish in back-to-back weeks. On the women's side, the Broncos totalled 21 team points, with the Dons finishing at 36.
