USF Clashes With Pacific on Saturday

When USF faces Pacific Saturday night in Stockton, it will be a much different Tiger team the Dons have seen in recent years.
Pacific is one of the most improved teams in the nation and is very much in the WCC title chase. After finishing with a 1-14-1 overall mark and going winless (0-6-1) in WCC play a year ago, the Tigers are 10-3-1 overall and at 2-1-0 in the WCC, are tied with San Diego for second place in the conference standings. After scoring just 10 goals all of last season, the Tigers are the WCC's second-highest scoring team with 25 goals and have yielded just 13 after allowing 35 a year ago.
USF has dominated the all-time series with Pacific, winning all 22 matches, including last season's meeting in San Francisco, 3-0 behind goals by David Garrett, Aaron Lombardi and Jonathan Fabulich. The Dons have outscored the Tigers, 7-1 over the last two seasons. It's all past history as the Tigers have gotten their bite back this season under third-year head coach Ryan Jorden.
The Dons enter Saturday's match with a 6-7 overall record and are 2-2 in the WCC following Sunday's 1-0 loss at Saint Mary's.
Saturday's match features two of the WCC's top scorers in USF's David Garrett and Pacific's Julio Cervantes, who each have seven goals on the year. Four of Cervantes' goals have been game-winners.
Neither team has any room for error if they are to keep their conference title hopes alive. If the Dons run the table in their last three matches against Pacific, San Diego and LMU, they would finish 5-2-0 overall and with 15 points. USF would also need some help along the way as first place Portland holds the tie-breaker by virtue of its 3-2 victory over the Dons earlier this season. Pacific can max out at 15 points if it were to sweep USF, Portland and Gonzaga to close the season.
Saturday's match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at Knoles Field in Stockton and will be streamed live on TheW.tv.
