MSOC | Dons Back In Action Traveling to Portland

The University of San Francisco men's soccer team (2-11-1/0-4-0 WCC) is back in action, traveling to the Rose City to take on the Portland Pilots (8-5-1/2-2-0 WCC). The Dons enter Saturday's contest still looking for their first road win. Saturday's contest will feature live stats and will be streamed live via the WCC Network.

WHATS THE STORY
• The Dons have had four-straight tight contests. During that stretch, the Dons fell to No. 5 Stanford 2-1 and followed that up with a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Saint Mary's. Last time out, USF fell to Santa Clara 1-0 on Wednesday night at Stevens Stadium.
• In the loss at Santa Clara, keeper Ruben Stuiver tallied four saves. For the year he has 62 which ranks 25th most in the nation. Stuiver's 5.17 saves per game ranks 13th in the nation.
• As a team, USF is averaging 0.57 goals per game and average 7.9 shots per contest. Leading the team Ashish Chattha, Shayan Charalaghi, and Jonah Van Der Werf lead the team with two goals apiece.

A defeating Gonzaga 3-0 at Merlo Field on Wednesday night Portland improved to 2-2 in the WCC and have now won four-straight. Defensively, the Pilots are one of the nation's best teams, allowing a conference-low 0.745 goals per game which ranks 15th in the nation. They are tied with Saint Mary's for fewest goals allowed on the year, with 10. Sophomore forward Alejandro Pereira leads the team with four goals on the year, he scored the game-winning goal in the 15th minute of the Pilots win over the Bulldogs.

Saturday's contest against the Pilots will be the 49th in the series history. All-time the Dons own a 24-20-4 record against Portland. At Merlo Field, USF is 8-12-0. The last time these teams faced each other was on Oct. 26, 2018 at Negoesco Stadium with the Dons earning a 2-1 win over the then No. 7 ranked Pilots. Cameron Martin scored the contests first goal in the 15th minute.
