Dons Fall Short Against Drake at Nugget Classic

RENO, Nev. -- It wasn't the USF Dons' (4-2) day as they fell to the Drake Bulldogs (3-2) 84-60 Saturday afternoon at Lawlor Events Center for their second game of the Nugget Classic.

Junior forward Kennedy Dickie put together her best performance as a Don as she led USF in minutes, points, rebounds and steals despite not much else going right for the Dons during the rest of the contest.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

Drake got off to a fast start in the first quarter as they held a 14-point advantage when the quarter ended.
USF made good adjustments in the second quarter as they entered the halftime break only down nine points after winning the second quarter 22-17.
The Dons came out ready to play immediately after the halftime break cutting the Drake lead to five, but the Bulldogs were able to take control of the rest of the game to earn the double digit victory on Saturday.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

Kennedy Dickie had a tremendous game off the bench as she poured in 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds, collected three steals and blocked one shot against the Bulldogs.
Claudia Langarita gave USF good minutes as well as she set a new career-high with 12 points while grabbing three rebounds, forcing two steals and blocking two shots.
Marianna Klavina helped create the spark off the bench as she played 19 minutes scoring five points while also contributing a rebound, steal and assist.

CATCHING UP WITH COACH GOODENBOUR:
"Drake is a very good and well-coached team, they are tough to prepare for on short notice. The good news is we got some really valuable minutes for Claudia and Kennedy and this will help them get some confidence and ultimately games like this teach us a lot about ourselves and will help us grow and improve. I thought Marianna Klavina provided a great spark off the bench and was pleased with her toughness in the face of adversity. We will shift our focus to Nevada now."

UP NEXT:
The Dons now look ahead to their final game of the Nugget Classic, as well as their first true road game of the season as they take on the Nevada Wolfpack Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Wolfpack put together a strong comeback against Idaho to pick up even their record to 1-1 so far in the classic.
