Zaloznik's Double-Double Leads San Francisco Volleyball Past La Salle 3-1

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco women's volleyball team defeated La Salle, 25-12, 20-25, 25-17, 25-13, Saturday morning, in the Asics Powerade Challenge at War Memorial Gym. The Dons improve to 6-3 overall, while the Explorers fall to 1-8.
Sophomore middle blocker Valentina Zaloznik set the pace for San Francisco with her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs. Zaloznik hit at a .480 percentage, leading all players with at least 10 attempts. Junior middle Malina Terrell added a season high 13 kills, while Jocelyn Levig added 11. The Dons hit .319 in the match, while the Explorers hit just .114.
Anja Segota led the defense for USF with a match high 18 digs. Leanna Ludes set up the offensive attack with a match high 44 assists. Ludes has now registered at least 21 digs in all nine matches to begin the season.
The Dons took the first set in commanding fashion 25-12 behind Terrell's four kills. USF tallied 12 kills and only two errors in 25 attempts for a sterling .400 attack percentage.
San Francisco fell in the second set 25-20 as La Salle attacked at a .250 percentage led by senior outside hitter Kelly Scanlon. After committing 10 errors in the first set, the Explorers minimized their mistakes with only four in the second set.
USF took over in the third set, winning 25-17 behind a strong showing from Terrell. The junior upped her kill total to 10 with just one error through three sets for a .429 attack percentage. Zaloznik continued to dominate as well with a game high .500 percentage (11 kills, 1 error, 20 attempts).
The Dons opened an 11-7 lead in the fourth set and wouldn't look back from there, hitting their best percentage of any set at a .455 clip.
USF returns to action tonight at 7:00 p.m. against Cal State Northridge in the final game of the 2012 Asics Powerade Challenge.
