Marlene Henderson led the University of San Francisco Women’s Basketball Team to the inaugural West Coast Conference Championship game. The game marked the first time that the WCC would be sending an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. It was also the closest a USF women’s team had come to postseason play since 1982.
Henderson captured team MVP honors and was named All-WCC First-Team for the second consecutive season after leading USF in both scoring and rebounding. Henderson averaged 14.7 points during the game and recorded a 10.3 average in rebounds. Although the Dons lost that game 67-62 to Santa Clara, the defeat in no way overshadowed what was one of the most memorable seasons in the Dons program. USF forged its success on a balanced scoring attack and a tenacious defense, which ranked second in the nation, allowing only 57.2 points per game. She finished her USF career with a scoring average of 14.9, and a rebounding average of 9.9.
After graduating from USF, Henderson played basketball professionally for Team Nitia in Bettembourg, Luxembourg.
