SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Francisco right-handed pitcher
Riley Ornido was named the West Coast Conference Rawlings Pitcher of the Week Monday for the week of Feb. 18-24 after helping the Dons get off to a rolling start in their series sweep of CSU Bakersfield with a dominating win on Friday.

Ornido (1-1) earned his first win of the season Friday by throwing seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts and just three hits allowed in a 2-0 series-opening victory over CSU Bakersfield.

Ornido struck out the side in the first and sixth innings. He struck out five of the first six batters he faced. Only once did he allow a runner to get past second base, and when that happened in the fourth (via an error), he induced an inning-ending double play to get out of the jam.

Loyola Marymount's Brandon Shearer was named WCC Rawlings Player of the Week alongside Ornido's Pitcher of the Week award.

San Francisco begins a five-day road trip on Wednesday at No. 7 Stanford. The trip continues with a three-game weekend series against Kansas State in Fort Worth, Texas, and wraps up on March 5 at San Jose State. Fans can find all live coverage links on USFDons.com.
