Alexander Nwosu was born on July 5, 1953, in Enugu, Nigeria. Prior to attending USF, he played soccer with his Nigerian National team from 1975-1976 with his USF teammate Andy Atuegbu, and on their soccer club team, the Rangers. He also participated in the Africa Cup of Nations Tournament. At USF, he played with the Dons as a forward from 1976 to 1979.

As a freshman in 1976, he developed into one of the finest forwards in the country. He finished with 12 goals to help USF to the NCAA Championship, and had three multi-goal scoring games that year. As a sophomore, he named to the All-Pacific Soccer Conference when he scored 17 goals and 6 assists to help the Dons to the NCAA title game against Hartwick. As a junior, he scored the final goal in USF’s win over Indiana 2-0 in the 1978 National Championship game, a title later vacated. As a senior, he captained the 1979 team. The Dons reached the Sweet Sixteen, and the Dons played the Santa Clara Broncos, with Roar Andersen scoring the penalty kick for a 3-2 win. He finished his USF career with 51 goals and 15 assists for 106 points.

He received his Bachelor’s in 1979, and Master’s degree from USF and worked for the San Francisco Planning Department.
