
UMass Lowell Defeats San Francisco in Slugfest

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (7-6) dropped an 18-7 nonconference decision at home to UMass Lowell (2-6) Saturday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Francisco trailed early in the contest, falling behind 7-0 in the fifth inning. The Dons plated four runs to trim the deficit to 7-4 in the bottom half of the frame. Wyatt Davis and Tyler Harries recorded RBI base hits while Jackson Nystrom and Tino Vasell drove in runs with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a walk.
- The Dons' deficit expanded to 11-4 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. San Francisco scored twice on Jackson Nystrom's two-run home run, tightening the River Hawks' lead to 11-6.
- Trailing 16-6, Trevor Busby doubled to right field, scoring Brady Luyben to get within 16-7 in the bottom of the eighth frame.
- UMass Lowell added two more runs in the top of the ninth, solidifying the 18-7 victory.
- Eddison Esquivel's three-hit performance led San Francisco offensively.
- Nystrom recorded his second home run of the season, a two-run blast over the left-field wall in the bottom of the seventh inning. He also tallied an RBI, his third of the game, on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
- Busby recorded his first-career hit, an RBI double, in the eighth inning.
- San Francisco pitchers faced 53 UMass Lowell hitters throughout the game, allowing nine ground balls and five fly balls, while striking out eight.
