Dons Earn Series Win, Defeat Toreros in Sunday Finale

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Despite an early deficit, the University of San Francisco baseball team (18-15, 9-3) rallied for the second straight game to earn a 6-1 series-clinching victory over San Diego (13-20, 6-6) Sunday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- San Diego jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring the game's first run on an Andrew Gauna RBI single.
- San Francisco answered in the bottom of the third inning as Isaiah Landry plated the tying run on a Jared Lewis single through the right side of the infield.
- Brendan Burke gave the Dons a 2-1 advantage in the following frame, recording a two-out RBI single to plate Eddison Esquivel.
- Burke registered another RBI single later in the inning, and Landry added a run, scoring on a fielding error by the Torrero shortstop, Cade Martinez, to put the green and gold up 4-1.
- Trevor Harmon and Esquivel scored a pair of runs in the home half of the eighth inning, scoring on RBI singles from Tyler Harries and Tino Vaseel to push the lead to 6-1.
- Nick Bacura closed the game in the ninth, putting San Diego down in order to secure the series win.
- Adrian Valdez earned his third win on the mound this season, pitching 5.0 stellar innings, allowing one run on six hits, and recording one strikeout.
- Burke recorded his second multi-hit game of the season, pacing the Dons with a two-for-four performance and two RBI.
- The Dons' bullpen shut out the Toreros in the final four innings, as Hunter Holzemer, Kai Yovanovich, and Bacura combined for four strikeouts.
- As a team offensively, San Francisco went five-for-14 (.357) with runners in scoring position.

San Francisco begins a five-game road trip in Sacramento when it takes on Sacramento State at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 14, at John Smith Field.
