**2020 (JUNIOR): Appeared in 11 games with six starts, all behind the plate ... Was the Opening Day starting catcher on the road at CSUN, going 1 for 3 in that game (Feb. 14) ... Hit his first career triple and drove in two runs in the Dons' 10-6 series-opening win at CSU Bakersfield (Feb. 21) ... Was flawless defensively behind the plate, not committing an error in 63 chances for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage ... Finished the year batting .154 (4 for 26) with two RBIs, a triple and a run scored.
2019 (SOPHOMORE): Played in 26 games with 14 starts, all as the backstop for Friday starter Riley Ornido ... Was named West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention with a 3.73 cumulative GPA in political science ... Hit .256 (11 for 43) with two RBIs, four runs scored and three walks ... Notched his first career multi-hit game at Pacific, going 2 for 3 with his first career stolen base as well (April 18) ... Batted .300 (3 for 10) with two runs scored in the games he didn't start ... Was 1 for 4 as a pinch hitter ... Only one error in 131 chances behind the plate gave him a .992 fielding percentage. Also threw out five would-be base stealers and held runners to a 66.7% success rate.
2018 (FRESHMAN): Served as the primary catcher for USF's first team all-WCC starter Riley Ornido, making 18 starts in 27 appearances behind the plate ... Was a strong defensive presence behind the dish, making only one error all season long in 145 chances, throwing out five would-be base stealers and only being charged for one passed ball ... Recorded his first career RBI on Feb. 24 versus San Jose State and his first career hit on March 4 versus UC Riverside ... Had a four-RBI performance on March 8 versus Xavier thanks to hitting his first career home run - a three-run shot ... Finished the year with seven hits, a home run, four runs scored, six RBIs, five walks and a stolen base.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played four years of baseball at Junipero Serra High School … Earned second team all-WCAL in his senior season as the team captain … In his sophomore season he earned first team all-WCAL, second team San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro and second team MaxPreps All-California Underclass … Hit .320 over his two varsity seasons with 58 hits, 17 doubles and 30 RBIs … Played two years of football.

PERSONAL: Born on Jan. 21, 1999 … Parents are Niall and Yvonne McCarthy with two siblings; one sister and one brother … CCS Scholar-Athlete Award in 2016 and 2017 … Serra Senior Scholar-Athlete award winner and Serra High School Outstanding Student Award … He earned National Honor Society honors, California Scholar Federation, California Assembly Scholastic Achievement Award and San Mateo Board of Supervisors Academic Commendation.
