At Santa Clara High School, Margaret Walsh-Altman was named one of the top-50 recruits in the nation by USA Today. She was also named to Street and Smith's All-American team as well as the Santa Clara High School MVP and league MVP. In her four years there, Walsh-Altman was Central Coast Selection All-Star and finished her career as the winner of the Don Collejon Scholar Athlete Award.
In her first year at USF, Walsh-Altman started in 20 of 26 games and was named to the Nor-Pac All-Freshman team. She was the third leading scorer for USF behind teammate Sue Corder and her sister Linda Walsh, averaging 10.9 points a game. Margaret was the leading rebounder for the Dons, pulling down an average of 7.1 boards a game and reached double digits in 16 out of her 26 games. Her season highs include 25 scoring points in the Dons' 82-68 win over San Jose State, and 13 rebounds against Cal. She finished her USF career with 697 rebounds, a scoring average of 15.2 and a 79.7 FT%. Walsh-Altman was known for her ability to put the ball on the floor and drive to the hoop as a sharpshooting forward for the Dons.Â
